Google Earth: NOAO Showcases

Google has recently released version 4.2 of Google Earth, which allows users to explore the sky.

Users can use Google Earth to explore many of the amazing color composite images taken on NOAO telescopes and instruments. Simply download the following file(s) to your desktop and open them using Google Earth (or set your browser to open files with the *.kml extension automatically with Google Earth). We are looking forward to more NOAO Showcase Galleries in the near future.

What's New?

• [Monday Sep 10 2007] NOAO announces the first release of its Showcase Gallery for Google Earth.

Showcases

• Local Group Galaxies (KML for Google Earth available here) contains NOAO imaging data from the MCELS (PI: C. Smith, NOAO) and Local Group Survey (PI: P. Massey, Lowell) programs.

• Local Group Galaxies: The development team included Chris Miller (CTIO) with significant help from Andy Connolly, Ryan Scranton, Jeremy Brewer and Simon Krughoff (UWash and Google). The color composite images were created by S. Points (CTIO) and the MCELS team and K. Olsen (NOAO) and the LGS team.
