Gemini Images: Stars

The Gemini Project is an international collaboration between the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Chile, Australia, Argentina and Brazil. This collection of images related to the Gemini project is maintained by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO). If you plan to use any of these images for other than your personal enjoyment, please read our conditions of use.

This category includes pictures of stars in various stages of life, from hot young stars illuminating the gas from which they recently formed, to old stars that are losing their outside layers as planetary nebulae. Also shown are pictures of star clusters, which include loose "open clusters" containing just a few hundred stars and very dense "globular clusters" which may contain over a million stars and are among the oldest objects in our galaxy.
