A giant elliptical galaxy (E0) in the Virgo Cluster, M87 is a strong radio source (3C274, Virgo A). Over 500 globular clusters have been detected in visible light and many are visible here (looking like fuzzy stars near the galaxy). KPNO 4-meter Mayall telescope, 1975. We also have a newer color image from the KPNO 0.9-m telescope.
